About Me

New York based musician Daniel Jamieson grew up in Toronto, Ontario where he attended the Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig Secondary School and participated in the Humber College Community Music School Program. Dan holds a bachelor degree from the University of Toronto in Jazz Performance. Currently, he is pursuing his masters degree at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and studies with composer / pianist Jim McNeely.  Dan was a guest artist at the Ottawa Jazz Festival in 2005, and was a featured soloist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Daniel has worked with artists such as Alex Dean, Kevin Turcotte, Mike Malone, William Carn, Tara Davidson, Chase Sanborn, and Dave Young. In the summer of 2007 Daniel was asked to write music for a concert at the Kincardine Summer Music Festival that featured soloist Guido Basso. Some of his major influences include P.J. Perry & Rob McConnell. Daniel’s mentors have included Dave Neill, Alex Dean, Mike Malone & Tim Ries. Most recently Daniel was awarded the Rising Young Star Award at the 2008 Prince Edward County Jazz Festival. Daniel works as a free lance musician, a teacher, and a composer / arranger in the Toronto area and performs regularly with the Jonah Cristall-Clarke Nonet. Daniel currently writes for his own 10 piece jazz ensemble the Daniel Jamieson Tentet and  his own 17 piece big band the Danjam Orchestra.
