JG, 19.07.07):

Our neighbours across the Niagara River are well-served with their own jazz society.
The Queen City Jass Society covers early jazz in and around Western New York and have done for many years.
A healthy exchange of bands, musicians and fans continues unabated across the border between Southern Ontario and New York State, thanks in part to the efforts of the QCJS.

Many Toronto area jazz fans know the club's president - Don Burns. Don has recently undergone hip surgery and we all wish him well and a speedy recovery and return to the piano stool at Dick & Jenny's, where he has a long-standing residency.

The club publishes its own quarterly magazine, "4-Bar Tag", keeping all abreast of the early jazz scene just across the border. Membership is US$20 or US$30 for couples/families.

Today (July 07) they celebrate their annual picnic, featuring The Joe Cavallero Dixieland Band, from Elmira NY.
Their annual jazz boat cruise goes August 17.

They can now be reached my email at [email protected]

Upcoming gigs and jazz events in Western New York can be found in the "Calendar" section of TorontoJazz.
