Miz Debbie passed away on Saturday August 12, 2017.

Miz Debbie was a popular and widely-loved jazz and blues singer, notably as vocalist with The Don Valley Stompers, who have a residency at Grossman's Tavern in Toronto.

A generous and giving person, Miz Debbie will be missed by her many friends and fans.

More detail when known.

(from Toby Hughes (17.08.16):

Hey guys,

Debbie's daughter Kimmie and Christine from Grossmans thought it'd be a good idea to go ahead with our Friday evening gig in order to raise some $ to help cover family costs, etc, for Debbie's service. I really do hope you can all make it out.

The service is looking to be on Monday August 21st, but I'll confirm that with you all by Friday.

Please do invite friends and musicians, forward this email or share the facebook event.
We will play from 6 to 9pm as usual.

Thanks in advance.

Miz Debbie's Funeral August 21

Brass Band, Loving Crowd at Little Trinity Church

A large crowd gathered at Little Trinity Church on King Street East for Miz Debbie's funeral Monday August 21. The Magnolia Brass Band led by Patrick Tevlin, whose members all perform at Grossman's Tavern, played traditional New Orleans funeral music before and after the formal funeral service. Miz Debbie was a stalwart of Grossman's -- Toronto's Home Of The Blues -- on Sundays, singing a few songs with The New Orleans All-Stars and with her own band once a month.

There were sad scenes and tears at Grossman's at the weekend, with a large crowd of regulars coming along to share their sorrow at the loss of a fine singer and a gracious, caring friend. On Sunday the band played some of Debbie's favorite spirituals, finishing with 'Hush! Hush! Someone Is Calling My Name' and then with a traditional parade led by the band around the tavern of 'When The Saints Go Marching In'. We shall all miss Miz Debbie and we won't forget her.
