Over fifty patrons paid their $5 admission to see and hear Dinny & the All Stars on Sunday November 22, at their new base, Queen Victoria's Pub, on Midland Avenue, between the 401 and Progress Avenue.

It was a fine session. Great music from the stage, good beverages and some hearty pub supper food made for a splendid evening.
Queen Victoria would have been amused.

This was the band's first gig at a residency within Toronto. Sessions are also confirmed for December 6 and 20 (alternate Sundays, 6 to 9 pm), with further gigs to be fixed in the new year. Pub owner, Steve, was all smiles at the turnout and the fans (who came from across Toronto and beyond) were well pleased with the band's lively work, under Dinny's energetic leadership. The dance floor was kept busy and a Bourbon Street Parade capped off the evening, to the delight of all. Bill Symmons has taken some fine pictures of the first night - click here.

For the record, the sextet comprised:

Brian "Dinny" Dinsdale/leader/trumpet
Mick Lewis/clarinet
Manfred Koch/trombone
Jamie Macpherson/banjo (his second gig of the afternoon)
Jamie Aug/drums
Abbey Sholzberg/bass

For those wanting to attend, Queen Victoria's is six minutes walk north of the Midland SRT subway stop. By car, Midland Avenue is flanked by Highway 401 exits at Kennedy and McCowan; there is ample free parking.

The line-up on December 6 is:

Brian Dinsdale/leader/trumpet
Mick Lewis/clarinet
Manfred Koch/trombone
Glenn Anderson/drums
Mike Walmsley/banjo
Bob Welborn/bass

December 6 was even better.

"Do-on-the-door" reported over 80 guests enjoyed a terrific evening of jazz at the second gig for Dinny & the Allstars, at Scarborough's Queen Victoria's pub. That's an increase of over 50% on their first session, November 22.

Folk came from around the GTA: Ajax, Stouffville, Port Hope, with one gentleman, Pete, coming from Kitchener, "Well, it was this or church", he said.
Same front row (Manfred Koch, Brian Dinsdale and Mick Lewis). Different, and tight, back row: Bob Welbourn, Doc Walmsley and Glenn Anderson kept the boys in front on their metal. Some excellent solo work from the Doc on his guitar.
The dance floor was often crowded out.

The event had a distinct holiday feel to it, despite this mild weather outside; the next session, December 20, promises to be a lively Christmas party. Dinny is inviting players and singers to sit in and share the stage.

(from Dorine & Brian Dinsdale, 15.12.15):

Hi All;

First I would like to thank all of you who have come out and supported our band at The Queen Victoria Pub. It has really been great to see familiar faces come out and support live music. We thank you for all of your nice comments, it really makes the band feel  good.

Well we have another gig on
SUNDAY DEC. 20TH AT THE QUEEN VICTORIA FROM 6 TO 9PM.
At 2240 MIDLAND NORTH OF PROGRESS AVE. SOUTH OF THE 401.
IT IS LOCATED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF MIDLAND WHEN YOU ARE GOING NORTH.
 FREE PARKING
$5.00 COVER CHARGE AT THE DOOR JUST THE SAME AS IN ANY OF THE PUBS DOWNTOWN LIKE THE REX AND C'EST WHAT. THIS IS TO HELP PAY THE BAND.

The owner is very pleased with the turn out and we had an increase from 55 the first night to 82 the second performance. That was a good increase.

The food is great and the family owned and run pub serves you with a smile.

SO LETS SEE IF WE CAN INCREASE THE ATTENDANCE AGAIN THIS SUNDAY. IT WOULD REALLY MAKE ALL OF US FEEL GOOD.

THE MORE FRIENDS YOU BRING THE BETTER IT GETS AND THAT IS WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING. WORD OF MOUTH IS ALSO SPREADING .

THANKS AGAIN.  SEE YOU SUNDAY

Cheers

Dinny & Do
