(from Dorine Dinsdale, 15.11.19):

To all of the fans of Joe Cavallero:

It is with a very heavy heart that Dinny and I pass on the sad news of Joe’s passing this morning at 8am.

He entered the hospital last week and cancer was discovered in his bile duct area. It was in-operatable. They tried many procedures to try to relieve his pain, with a severe infection in the area.

But his blood pressure crashed this morning, and they could not revive him.

This all happened very suddenly. Robbie the police chief (JG: in Elimira NY, where Joe lived) phoned us ealy yesterday to let us know that he was very sick, His friend Karen said he had about a month or two. Dr. Vince the banjo/guitar player was looking after him.

We have all lost a great friend and band leader. He showed us a great time in Elmira and entertained many of us at the Alexandria Bay festival.

It is a very sad time for all of us but we remember the good time we had listening to his great band and his wonderful fun personality.

His friend Karen and his loyal band members will miss him dearly. As we all will.

Sincerely Brian & Dorine

JG: Joe was the leader of The Joe Cavallero Dixieland Jazz Band, based in Elmira NY. He played piano and sang. As Dorine says, he was a very happy-go-lucky guy. His love of the music was very infectious and shone through in his playing.
