Adieu, Excelsior Jazz Band
Leader Syd Calvert takes the stage at what may be the final gig for the Excelsior Jazz Band at The Rex Hotel. They have been resident in the noon - 3pm Sunday slot for many years, March 31 being their last session, at least for a while. An SRO crowd bid the band farewell, with many guests sitting in. An institution to many of their loyal fans, they will be missed. Here's hoping their phoenix will raise again. Photo by Bill Symmons; more pictures here.
