November 27 saw Dinny's Allstars celebrate a full year residency at Queen Victoria's Pub.
A sell-out crowd were treated to a double bill - The Ragweed Jazz Band also played a set to mark the occasion, with the 'massed bands' rounding off the evening.
Guest singers, a party atmosphere and a free raffle (compliments of the House) added to the ocassion.
Establishing a band on a regular basis at a particular venue can be fraught with issues. But during its first year, Dinny & the Allstars has built an established fan base. Steve, the pub owner, is clearly well-pleased with the business that band has helped to bring in. A special Sunday supper menu pricing means that many choose the ocassion to have their meal there.
Add to this a lively dance floor and beverage specials and it's a win-win-win situation.
Leader Brian Dinsdale read out a long list of those who have played in the band during its first year, a who's who of Toronto's traditional jazz. Add Brian's well-know enthusiasm and good marketing and 'back office' work by Doreen Dinsdale and you have a formula for success. It was well-evident at the party that their diligent work has paid off.
The band (usually) plays every other Sunday, from 5 to 8 pm. Admission is $5.
Queen Victoria's pub & restaurant is located at 2240 Midland Avenue, just south of highway 401, a 6 minute walk north from Midland SRT station.
Next gig is the Christmas party on December 11, featuring special guest singer Zoe Adams.
